2 Cold Brew Packs, Colombia

Two Colombian cold brew packets (Full City Roast)

Sierra Nevada La Miel

The sweetness of roasted almonds and chocolate increases, and the refreshing citrus acidity that lingers after you finish drinking is pleasant, making this a coffee that you can drink over and over again; it's what we call "easy to drink."

The name of this coffee, La Miel, means honey in Spanish.

The name comes from the fact that the farmers of the Azogran agricultural cooperative also practice beekeeping. In northern Colombia, the coffee harvest season is only four months, from October to January, so they cannot make a living from coffee alone.

For this reason, they produce honey from guamo trees, which are planted as shade trees, and this is an important source of income. Honeybees cannot live in areas with pesticides and help pollinate plants, so their population is sometimes said to be an environmental indicator of the richness of the local environment. However, because Arabica coffee trees are self-pollinating, the presence of honeybees on coffee plantations has not been considered important until now.

A survey by the Colombian coffee research institute Cenicafé found that honeybees are involved in approximately 16% of the pollination of coffee trees, and it seems likely that the coffee cultivation carried out by the Asogran agricultural cooperative, which involves honeybees, will attract more attention in the future as a sustainable production method that is kind to producers as well as the environment.
